Not all romance movies are created equal: The expansive film genre runs the gamut from The Notebook to When Harry Met Sally to, arguably, Pixar's WALL-E. There's classics, clichГ©s, and the rare love films that can magically warm even the least sentimental of hearts. Because there's a little bit of something for every taste, no moviegoer (even the most high-brow) is immune to having a romance favorite. Whether you like to admit it or not, there's that one film (however surprisingly) that's changed your perception of on-screen love for the better, and you'd be more than willing to rewatch, no arm-pulling required.
A number of different factors can influence your romance flick of choice, but data from Streaming Observer hints that your geographic location might have something to do with it. Just in time for Valentine's Day, the platform used data from Rotten Tomatoes to create a list of the most popular romance movies of all time, and then collaborated with Mindnet Analytics to determine which state watched each more than the others.
Some of findings won't come as too much of a shock; the folks in Pennsylvania are predictably obsessed with The Philadelphia Story. The data also showed that multiple states couldn't get enough of Her, Ghost, It Happened One Night, *Sense and Sensibility,, Silver Linings Playbook, and The African Queen. Meanwhile, another repeat across the country, Titanic, takes the throne as the most searched for romance movie in the United States.
Not only did the research uncover specific movie-watching trends, but Streaming Observer made note of larger nationwide patterns too. For example, if you live in New York, Massachusetts, or California, sidle up to your sweetheart and turn on Hulu because these three states are the most interested in romantic films, respectively. On the other hand, Mississippi had the least desire to pop in a love story, followed by South Carolina, and West Virginia.
Check out the list below to see if your favorite film lines up with your state's pick. Regardless of where you're from, though, let these loved-up flicks become your official V-Day romance movie guide. You're welcome.
